Executive Summary
Parneyan Training Centre & Rehabilitation Organization (PTCRO) is a non-government, non-political, non-for-profit for-public welfare organization. The organization has been active for nearly two decades, with the sole objective of contributing to the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. Currently, PTCRO is a member organization of various civil society networks and associations.
Considering the current economic and social crisis in Afghanistan- post 15th August 2021, PTCRO is focused on playing a helping role in supporting humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan, and improving access to health services, education and livelihoods support through vocational training, on-job training and apprenticeship programs. Moreover, PTCRO brings in expertise for addressing crucial evolving concerns on financial transactions, and cross-border trade sustainability.
Background of Establishment
The organization’s roots were planted in mid-1996 when Ms. Kamila Sidiqi (founder and Managing Director), started a tailoring training program for more than 150 poor women in her home in Khair-khana Kabul. A team of committed women activists volunteered their support and within two years, most of the trainees were able to open their tailoring shops to support their families. The income level of the trainees increased significantly, and the project produced a deep and long-lasting impact on the life of beneficiaries. Initially, the founder and her team started most of their welfare activities voluntarily with self-contributed funds. The results of the initial welfare activities motivated the founder to officially register the organization to help everyone across the country. The Dressmaker of Khairkhana is a New York Times bestseller and gives an insight in the challenges and hurdles faced by Ms. Kamila Sidiqi as she sought to support her own family and other poor Afghans
